Meeting plan: 2 PM Saturday, February 14, 2004
at Starbucks on Maryland Parkway

Here is what I'd like to accomplish at our next meeting.

First, note the location. Yep, we're back at Starbucks. Lied Library sucks. Their coffee shop is closed on Saturdays, and their meeting rooms were totally full last week, half of which were occupied by exactly one student (grrrr. You want privacy, stay home, but I digress.) So, we're back at the old stomping grounds.

Anyway, this week let's go over the exact requirements of a full design document. For a "full" design document, here is what I was thinking. Some of these things Travis and I talked about last week, and the rest I came up with since then. Here are the requirements:

  • A description of every location in the game, from start to finish. Give each area the treatment we gave Wichita Falls.
  • Full descriptions of gameplay mechanics, such as leveling up, or the battle system. And we'll have to get numerical with it. We'll have to make sure systems are balanced (as much as we can without prototyping) and consistent with our design.
  • We'll have to go into a little greater depth with the hunting and dueling systems. See if we can tie them a little more tightly to the main game. Ideally, going into a hunting or dueling sequence will be no more alien than jumping into a battle sequence.
  • One full storyboard. By full, I mean one that shows everything. For instance, we have hunting, dueling, and battle storyboards, but how do we get from one to the other? We've seen a battle scene, but we haven't shown how a battle plays out chronologically. I'll go over this more on Saturday.

Let's go over whether or not these are reasonable requirements. If all four of us end up working again on this project, we can do this easily. Three of us can also manage this. It's possible with two, but we may have to hold off on the storyboarding.

Also, I mentioned the possibility of using our website as something bigger than just True Western. We can use it to post personal pages/resumes/projects, and even general information on game development in Las Vegas. Let's decide what we want to do with our webpage. If we make it something bigger, perhaps others in the class would be interested in posting their information, too. (Also, if we make it something bigger, let's think of a name for the domain. If the webpage is just our project, www.truewestern.com is available.)

Finally, let's see if we can hammer out ability trees for the characters, as well as affinities where appropriate. (Obviously, the Prayer magic doesn't need affinities since only Father Steve can use it.)

Hope to see everyone there.

Vin: "Reminds me of that fellow back home that fell off a ten story building."
Chris: "What about him?"
Vin: "Well, as he was falling people on each floor kept hearing him say, 'So far, so good.'"
