Here is what I'd like to accomplish at our next meeting.
Today, let's start discussing our locations. Let's start with Tamah's village, and we'll go in chronological order from there. We'll just do what we did with Wichita Falls. We'll also divvy up the responsibilities like we did last time. Let's decide it at the meeting, but I'm thinking the same sort of thing as we've been doing. Travis and I would do the dialog trees, we'll go over the storyline of the location during the meetings, and Joe will take care of designing some more mechanics (if he wants to continue with the battle system, or some other system perhaps. They all need some fleshing out.)
For Tamah's village, we'll need storyline, a map, and a list of events, like last time. What we have so far, Tamah's village is sort of like the tutorial level. Wichita Falls taught more battle strategy, so we can teach the bare basics here. How abilities are learned, horse basics, etc... we shouldn't just assume the player is familiar with concepts like experience, even though they may very well be. I've played tons of games that just throw the whole str/con/exp at you without explaining it, which is fine for me, but anyone who isn't familiar with it in and out will be turned off by it bigtime.
Also, let's decide whether the ability system we have now is a suitable replacement for regular experience progression. If it is (and I hope it is) let's do away with experience altogether, and decide what to do with progressing things besides abilities (hp, whatnot.) If we can do it, we'd be making awesome progress in abolishing a lot of tired and cliched RPG mechanics.
Hope to see everyone there.
